Well, we're over half way through March. This past week it looks like Spring has finally made an appearance here in the Terrace/Kitimat/Prince Rupert area. We've had snow, snow showers, hail... Yesterday & today has seen mostly cloudy skies, but the clouds have some tops on them from convection currents - they're not those depressing snow/rain clouds from winter. I love this time of year with the promise of warmer weather. Soon the crocuses will be appearing in my south facing flowerbeds at the base of my home!

The ground is too wet to do any yard work so I decided to be brave and install Vista Ultimate on my 9 month old computer. When I bought it I spent the extra money to have XP Pro installed rather than Vista - I had software with known Vista issues + with the client work I was doing at the time, I didn't want to risk installing in case things went south. My computer life these past couple of weeks has been quiet enough, I thought it was time to try it before the Spring itch really takes a hold of me & drags me outside.

So the update went through last night without a hitch. I backed up my important files, just in case, to an external drive. Today, I've been doing website updates & checking for software problems. Here's the software I'm running and any problems I'm having/had. I'll try and keep this posting updated for anyone who might be curious or looking for troubleshooting solutions.

-Microsoft Frontpage 2003 - works fine. I think the only issue I read about was something about creating hyperlinks. Not really an issue.
-Civilization IV (4) - came up with an "initialize renderer failed error". I thought it was either video or DirectX 10 causing the error. Check my drivers, video was installed as a simple VGA instead of ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro - updated Windows driver and all works fine now. Will have to play a full game to see if any other errors occur.
-Norton Internet Security 2009 - all works fine except for advanced protection (antivirus/antispyware) is shut off - won't come on. So have to check into that. Don't think it's a biggie.

Love how the image files sitting on my desktop now show a tiny image of the actual picture, not an image logo. And I think Vista loads faster than my XP, other than my slow BIOS boot-up which has been an issue since the 2nd week after I bought it (could be video card conflict I was hoping would clear up with OS update)

Fixed my slow BIOS boot-up. Turned out it was the boot-up sequence that was wrong. Told the BIOS to check for hard drive start up first - USBs had been set as first lcoation. Everything loads up fast now.

Update to my post.

Had to uninstall/reinstall Norton Symantec as LiveUpdate ran into an error.
Quickbooks EasyStart 2006 doesn't want to run 100%. Had to set it to run in XP mode with the administrator box checked off
