SuzyQBC First snow on the mountains

Yep, it's here, much as I wish otherwise. I'm not a winter fan and would be very happy if it would remain up on the mountains. September has been a wet month - no big surprise, it usually is wet. But I was hoping that with the fantastic summer we had this year, that the sun would continue into September. I got wondering why is it that September is usually wet around here? Does it have to do with the autumn equinox, the sun getting closer to equator warming up the oceans there causes the ocean c… Continue

SuzyQBC Today's Note from the Universe/TUT

I get these notes by Mike Dooley delivered to my mailbox every week day. I wanted to share today's grin" "I dreamed of us again last night, Suzette. You were wearing your rabbit PJ's again. And we were wondering about the consequences of a role reversal. You know, me as you and you as me, for a day or so. But you were right. I keep forgetting to hop... and you keep forgetting that the entire world is spinning in the palm of your hand. Hop, hop - The Universe" "Suzette, you could've told me you… Continue

SuzyQBC Rockin' at Riverboat Days 2009

Are you feelin' like a baked couch potato? Temperature records were broke across the north coast & the rest of BC yesterday. The Terrace airport reported a high just over 37C and today should be the same. That makes the temperatures in downtown Terrace over 40. Add to that a little humidity, and I feel like a limp biscuit. I heard a radio announcer from Vancouver yesterday describe it as being wrapped up in a Slanket - fortunately with a Slanket you can take it off. It'll be another night of… Continue

SuzyQBC Donate to Kelowna fire evacuees

Most of us have seen or heard the news that the Kelowna area is fighting several wildfires again. Telus has again started a donations drive. At the moment they are collecting things like toiletries and cash donations. Here's the phone numbers for donating: call 604-697-8184 or 1-866-697-8184 and get information about mailing in a donation. Checks need to be made out to Telus Community Ambassadors. The phone numbers above crashed Sunday due to all the callers, so if you can't get through, try… Continue

SuzyQBC Webmasters blog - stardate 04-14-2009

{grin} This is my second attempt to post this particular blog entry. A word of warning to any other bloggers here - save a draft of your blog. I did a preview without saving a draft, and exited the blog without posting. {groan} lost my work! I've done that enough times, you'd think I'd learn! Guess I'm used to using Blogger... Anyway, it's been a BUSY time here at northcoastbconline.com this past week or so. A big hello and welcome to all the new… Continue

SuzyQBC Spring has come!?

Well, we're over half way through March. This past week it looks like Spring has finally made an appearance here in the Terrace/Kitimat/Prince Rupert area. We've had snow, snow showers, hail... Yesterday & today has seen mostly cloudy skies, but the clouds have some tops on them from convection currents - they're not those depressing snow/rain clouds from winter. I love this time of year with the promise of warmer weather. Soon the crocuses will be appearing in my south facing flowerbeds at… Continue

SuzyQBC Main site down for the moment

My apologies to anyone who visited the main site www.northcoastbconline.com and find it unavailable. There's been a mix up in my credit card payment info (the joys of getting pre-payments updated with new visa info). I've contacted the billing department with the correction and hope to get the site active ASAP. Suzette Continue

SuzyQBC North Coast abundance

While our economy may struggle around here, we definitely have an abundance of weather! After almost a month of temps -6 and colder, the temp is now hovering around the zero mark. This past weekend we got a 2 foot dump of snow Saturday night/Sunday morning. Could have been… Continue

SuzyQBC Baby, it's cold outside!

You know the winter/xmas song "Baby it's cold outside"? Well, that one's been rolling around my head today. It's warmed up to -12 C at the airport this afternoon, with arctic outflow winds gusting around 42 km. Thankfully, I live just north east of the airport and I'm sheltered by the Copper / Thornhill Mountain from most of the wind. Supposed to get colder yet, and last for over a week. On the good side, beautiful clear blue skies that really set off the snow capped mountains (basically no snow… Continue

SuzyQBC You've got to argue, you've got to debate

"You've got to argue, you've got to debate. Here's what happens to a good idea when it's debated: it grows, it refines. Sometimes it even becomes spectacular." Jim Rohn When I came across this quote this morning, I felt the spark to share it and my thoughts that soon followed. In the past I've been the sort of person that avoided discussions/debates - for several reasons. First, unconsiously I felt that what I believe is right for me (my reality) , and isn't necessarily right for someone else… Continue

SuzyQBC Snow, freezing rain, rain - a winter's day in the Skeena Valley.

Good morning! Winter has made an appearance here again in the Skeena Valley. The beginning of the week we saw beautiful clear skies, temperatures down to around -5 celcius at night. Did you get to see the awesome sight Monday night of the moon with the incredibly bright Venus and Jupiter? Yesterday the clouds rolled in and we've received about 4 inches of snow in upper Thornhill and some freezing rain. This morning there is still some freezing rain showers and the temperature is slowly climbin… Continue

There was lots of jewelry to choose from - magnetic bracelets, crystal, stones, glass, metal, beads. Lots of quilting, baby clothing, handmade soaps & lotions, pottery, custom handbags, stained glass, paintings, woodworking, doggy vests & bandanas, lace linens, an Avon rep, Beauticontrol rep, and more! SuzyQBC Happy Thanksgiving

It's a balmy +7 C party sunny afternoon with a strong south wind. Quite a nice change from the rain that was falling when I woke up this morning. I'm working on a couple of projects before heading to my parents for their Thanksgiving + anniversary dinner. I just wanted to wish all the Canadians here a happy Thanksgiving. Please give some thought to what you are thankful for today - clean, inexpensive water flowing from my taps, a roof over my head that doesn't leak (and I own, not the bank), tha… Continue

SuzyQBC Social networks and websites for clubs

Thanks to my webmaster adventures, I'm asked from time to time for help on building websites. Most clubs want something that is very easy to administer and allows visitors/members to contribute. Ning.com is a great social network that I've come across recently. The basic system is free to use and allows members to post photos, blogs, videos, start discussions, chat. Paid premium services allow the network owner to remove the automatic Google Adwords box (on the right side of the page - this is… Continue

SuzyQBC Green Fair @ NWCC

Yesterday I got together with a friend and checked out the Green Fair at the Terrace campus of Northwest Community College. I was disappointed to see they didn't have any large signage up on the campus pointing to the building the fair was in, announcing that it was happening at all. Well, I did see one sign on the east end of the Dudley Little bridges, but nothing other than flyers on campus. We first checked out Kiva, thinking maybe it was happening in there - turned out to be some other confe… Continue
